~ The Marilynette Lounge ~

Where us Marilynettes hang out with a glass of champagne! I tend to do alot of Marilyn on this day facts. So if you love Marilyn too, then I think you'll like it here. I just might throw in a little Britney Spears picture every once and awhile.

#Marilynettes ~ On February 5th, 1961 Marilyn Monroe was admitted to the psychiatric department of the Payne Whitney Clinic under the name Faye Miller. Marilyn’s psychoanalyst Marianne Kris set up her stay and dropped her off at the hospital. Marilyn wasn’t mentally strong after her divorce from Arthur, bad reviews from her last two films and no future film projects to look forward to.

This hospital’s policy was to lock up the most unstable patients in a padded cell. Marianne Kris thought she had set up a normal room for Marilyn, but that wasn’t the case when she was admitted. The hospital thought Marilyn was so much unstable that they locked her in a padded room. Marilyn didn’t handle this well cause she felt that she had finally become her mother.

Not till February 8th was Marilyn allowed to make contact with the outside. She got a letter to Strasbergs asking for help to get released. The Strasbergs were unable to help.

On February 9th Marilyn was allowed a phone call and she called Joe DiMaggio for help. He immediately hoped on a plane to NYC. Joe was furious to hear of Marilyn’s treatment. Joe called Dr. Marianne Kris demanding that she call the hospital to allow Marilyn to be released. After Joe’s threatening phone call Marilyn was set to be released the next day.

On February 10th Marilyn’s friend/masseur Ralph Roberts and Dr. Kris picked her up from the hospital. To not cause extra media frenzy Joe waited at Marilyn’s home rather then go to the hospital. Marilyn never spoke to or saw Dr. Kris again from this day.

Joe was worried about Marilyn and saw she needed help. Marilyn agreed to be admitted to the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Marilyn was admitted that evening and would stay there until March 5th. Joe visited Marilyn every day during her stay there so she wouldn’t be scared. Arthur Miller heard that Marilyn was admitted to the Payne Whitney Clinic and contacted Nan Taylor (wife of the producer of The Misfits) for Marilyn’s contact information. Nan Taylor advised him not to get involved so Arthur never got in contact with her.
